Octopus: Genius of the deep


Cephalopods, the family of aquatic critter that includes squid, cuttlefish, and octopus, are without a doubt the most intelligent of the invertebrates.
They have been observed to solve complex puzzles, use tools, play tricks on each other and human observers, and exhibit indiviual personalities.
This article discusses how evidence of their capacity to feel pain and suffering is causing the British and EU governments to consider extending protections to them equivalent to those offered for monkeys, dogs, and cats.
